The US is losing manufacturing jobs. How bad is the damage? This chart shows the number of remaining jobs and it’s about the same as 1944. Everything we gained in the last century was taken away.
What it means needs to be put in perspective. In 1944 the total US population was 138 million. Today it is 312 million. In other words, we have 174 million more people today chasing the same number of jobs that were available in the 1940’s. I’ll remind you the US was still suffering from the Great Depression during that time too.
Stated another way, during the 1940’s there was one manufacturing job for every 13.8 people. In 2013 there is one for every 31.2 people.
This is what happens when you allow corporations an unrestricted ability to move offshore. You’re flipping burgers or working for tips while someone in China has your job. How does it feel? Are you proud of yourself? Get off your ass and insist the government stop it. This situation only exists because our trade laws allow it. Laws can be changed.
